Detailed Itinerary - CUSCO TO MACHU PICCHU (3D/2N)

Day 1:
City Tours
  • This itinerary offers double-time tours (09:00am-1:00pm) or (2:00pm-6:00pm) Tours begin with an introduction to the history of Cusco Enjoy a guided tour of this charming city, which was the capital of the Inca Empire. The tour begins in Coricancha, also known as 'the temple of the sun'. It was built by order of the Inca Pachacutec to worship the sun and, upon the arrival of the Spanish, it became the base for the construction of the Convent of Santo Domingo. Then, visit the Cathedral (optional), the most imposing monument in the Plaza de Armas, and head to the hills where Sacsayhuamán is, one of the most emblematic Inca buildings built in the 15th century. It is an immense fortress built with large stones, whose transfer and assembly remains a mystery. Continue to Qenqo, an archaeological complex for religious use, where rituals related to agriculture were celebrated. Finally, you will visit Puca Pucará, which means 'Red Fort', it was an architectural complex supposedly for military use, with multiple environments, squares, bathrooms, aqueducts and towers. It is believed that it was used by the Inca entourage while the leader rested in Tambomachay, which is a place where water was worshiped. After finishing the visit, we return to the city of Cusco.
Day 2:
Machu Picchu
  • The “lost city of the Incas” is the reason why thousands of people come to Peru. Hidden among the vegetation, get closer to our past through its rooms built in communion with the landscape that surrounds them. Your visit to Machu Picchu begins with an hour and a half train ride through spectacular Andean landscapes to Aguas Calientes, departing from Ollantaytambo station. From here, you will take a 25-minute bus ride to Machu Picchu, the 'lost city of the Incas'. It is believed that the archaeological site was built around 1450 by the Inca Pachacutec. However, a century later, the city was abandoned after the Spanish conquest, saving it from the destruction that came to other Inca settlements. Instead, vegetation began to grow and slowly hid its stone constructions, protecting it. During the guided tour, learn about the origins of this impressive citadel, presenting its most notable monuments such as the main square, the royal quarters, the temple of the three windows, the circular towers, the sacred clock and the cemeteries. At the end of the tour, return to Aguas Calientes for lunch and enjoy the rest of the afternoon at leisure.
